Opta Group Expanding to Recycled Glass Processing

Standard and certification initiative works to further steel industry’s contribution to a sustainable society.

Burlington, ON (January 15, 2024) – Opta Group, a portfolio company of Speyside Equity Advisers (“Speyside”), is excited to announce the creation of a value-added glass division (“Opta Glass”) and plans to construct a technically advanced recycled glass processing facility in Waterdown, ON.

With plans to begin operation in late June 2024, the new facility will have over 100,000 metric tonnes of capacity to produce premium ground glass pozzolan under its RE-act 4™ label. RE-act 4™ is a co-developed product family managed through a joint marketing and supply partnership with RED Industrial Products of Grove City, PA.

Located 35 minutes west of Toronto, the Waterdown facility is ideally located to receive multiple streams of waste glass and supply a captive construction materials market in Canada and the United States with a premium low carbon footprint supplementary cementitious material (“SCM”).

“The time is now to supply a new super SCM to enable concrete producers to move closer to fulfilling their carbon neutral commitments. We are very thrilled to be part of this journey”, says Craig Szabo, Director of Technology
with Opta Waterdown, Inc. and head of the Opta Glass project.

Stay tuned for more exciting product announcement news as the Opta Glass facility comes online.
